Air Quality

Health Comes First – The health of our students, staff, and guests is our highest priority. For this reason, DSSI has developed measures to minimize the impact of fine particulate matter on health.

Our multi-level system, developed in 2017 by a working group of parents, teachers, school administrators, Board members, and Embassy staff, regulates time spent outdoors. Its aim is to strike a balance between ensuring sufficient physical activity and protecting students’ health. When levels of fine particulate matter are high, students remain in classrooms with windows and doors kept closed. All classrooms and teaching spaces are equipped with air purifiers.

Our measures are based on the PM2.5 and PM10 values recorded by the city of Seoul in Yongsan-Gu. We follow the threshold values set by the Korean School Authority (SMOE) and gradually restrict outdoor activities and time spent outdoors accordingly.
