Welcome to the Academic and Career Counseling Service

A particular focus at the Secondary Level of the German School Seoul International is placed on university and career guidance. We support, advise, and inform students in grades 9 to 12 to prepare them optimally for academic studies, dual study programs, or vocational training.

Our university and career guidance program is dedicated to strengthening our students’ ability to make informed decisions about their future. Through a wide range of partnerships and events with universities and institutions in Germany and abroad — including Seoul National University, the University of Jena, the Federal Employment Agency, and the Inventors’ Laboratory of the Center for Chemistry — as well as guest lectures by professors, work‑experience placements, our annual Career Days, and individual counselling sessions with our university advisor, we ensure that our students are thoroughly prepared to make well‑considered choices regarding their academic and career pathways.

To stay up-to-date, we regularly conduct surveys to understand students’ desires, interests, and challenges in choosing a course of study and career. Based on these findings, we adapt our advising services to ensure tailored academic and career counseling.

The decision regarding a degree program or vocational training program is entirely in the students’ hands. Since the range of study programs available is now extremely wide, independent research is unavoidable. Using an advising option supports this process and provides knowledge about relevant information sources and approaches, for example, for meeting study and training requirements. There are no pre-defined answers to questions like “What should I study?” or “Which city is recommended for studying?” Instead, our advising service shows all of the options available to help you make your own decision. Furthermore, the Academic and Career Counseling Service at the German School Seoul International also coordinates school-based letters of recommendation for vocational training and study projects, if needed, or provides support in dealing with German authorities to further your career.

The Future Day for Grade 9 is an important component of our school’s career guidance program. It offers students the opportunity to gain a realistic insight into the working world outside the regular classroom setting and to explore different career fields. The aim is to gain practical experience, reflect on personal interests, and discover new career perspectives.

On this day, students independently visit a company, business, or social organization of their choice. There, they accompany professionals in their daily work and gain first-hand insight into job responsibilities, requirements, and working conditions. Participation helps students better assess their personal strengths and develop initial ideas for their future educational and career pathways. The Career Orientation Day is prepared for and followed up on in class to reflect on the experience and integrate it into each student’s individual career guidance process.

Our internship program offers grade 10 students a valuable opportunity to gain in-depth insights into the world of work and business through temporary employment in a company or academic institution, as well as to explore their personal interests and potential career paths.

The internship takes place within a specified two-week timeframe and can be completed both in Korea and abroad. The school provides support in finding, finding, and completing the internship, and the program is thoroughly prepared for and followed up in politics classes.

A key element of the internship is maintaining an internship portfolio. This promotes an in-depth exploration of possible future career paths and fields of work and offers students the opportunity to document their experiences and insights in a structured manner. Overall, the internship represents a valuable complement to academic learning and supports students in their career orientation and personal development.

Career Days at DSSI offers high school students a unique opportunity to learn about diverse career paths and ask personal questions directly to experts. The invited speakers represent a wide range of professional fields – from theater and politics to art and medicine, architecture, the automotive industry, and IT. This impressive diversity creates an inspiring atmosphere and allows students to gain valuable insight into various career options.

The active participation of DSSI alumni is particularly noteworthy. These former students share their educational paths and experiences after graduating from DSSI, offering up-to-date insights into the diverse opportunities that a degree from our school can open up. Their stories are vivid testimonies to the numerous paths open to students after graduation and offer valuable guidance for their own career decisions.
